Overview

Payment links are specialized web links designed to facilitate payments from Customers. When a Customer clicks on a payment link, they are directed to a hosted checkout page where they can make a payment. These payment links can be used multiple times by the same or different Customers. Each time a payment is made through a payment link, it generates an Order for the transaction.

There are two types of payment links:

Price-Only Payment Links: These links are straightforward and only specify the price and currency for the payment. They do not include details about specific products or their prices. Price-only payment links do not support the use of promotion codes (coupons) and do not provide an option to generate Invoices for the transaction.

Payment Links with Products and Product Prices: These links are more detailed and include information about specific products and their associated prices. Product prices can be either recurring (e.g., Subscriptions) or non-recurring (one-time payments). Customers using these links must select from the available product prices for their payment. When using payment links with at least one non-recurring product price, it becomes possible to generate Invoices in addition to Orders. For recurring product prices, the payment link also generates Subscriptions alongside the Orders. Customers can apply coupons (promotion codes) when using these payment links if the Tenant User (the person managing the payment link) has set it up with that functionality, which can be used for both recurring and non-recurring product prices.

In addition to these distinctions, the Tenant User has the flexibility to choose whether to collect address information from Customers. They can opt to request only billing address information or both billing and shipping address information, depending on their needs, an option that is available for both types of Payment Links.

It's important to note that while certain aspects of payment links, such as Invoice generation, address collection, and coupon acceptance, can be customized, it is not possible to change the type of a payment link once it's created or modify the product prices associated with it.

On the detailed information page of a payment link, users can access a wealth of data, including the initial link setup details, a record of all payments made through that link, the identities of the Customers who made those payments, and any Subscriptions generated (for recurring product prices). This comprehensive view allows for effective management and tracking of payments and Customer interactions.

For tracking and record-keeping purposes, payment links typically cannot be canceled or deleted. However, they can be archived. Archiving a payment link essentially takes it out of active circulation, making it inaccessible for any future payments.

It's important to note that archiving a payment link does not affect the payments that were previously made through it. All the payment records and transaction history associated with that link will remain intact on the platform, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate financial record.

By archiving payment links instead of deleting or canceling them, businesses and organizations can maintain a complete and auditable payment history while effectively managing their payment operations. This ensures transparency and accountability in financial transactions.
