Overview
A transaction within the Inspire platform serves as a record of monetary exchanges among various entities, including Inspire, tenants, and customers. Inspire, in this context, may act as an agency, overseeing multiple registered tenants within the Inspire platform.
There are three primary transaction types:
Payment: Payment transactions are the most common, involving the movement of funds from a customer to Inspire. Payments are typically positive values, though, in rare instances, they can be reduced to $0.00 but never become negative. Importantly, all payments incur associated fees, which can vary based on tenant-specific criteria, such as payment processing locations and accepted payment methods.
Refund: Refund transactions represent an outflow of funds and are invariably linked to a prior payment. A refund signifies Inspire returning a customer's money. To qualify as a refund, the transaction must move directly from Inspire to the customer. If, however, it becomes necessary to refund the funds to the credit card provider instead of the customer, Inspire will not classify it as a refund.
Payout: Payouts are not visible on the tenant platform but are accessible through the Super Portal, the administrative hub of Inspire. Payouts reflect the outflow of funds from Inspire to a specific tenant, aggregating the payments received by that tenant while deducting fees and refunds, and disbursing the remaining amount.
It's important to note that transactions cannot be directly created by users; rather, users initiate the creation of payments, refunds, or payouts. Additionally, transactions do not possess a standalone detail page view; when a user clicks on a transaction, they are directed to the detail page of a payment, refund, or payout, depending on the transaction type. This design ensures clarity and facilitates access to the specific information associated with each financial transaction while maintaining a structured and user-friendly interface. Lastly, it's essential to emphasize that transactions are immutable once recorded, ensuring the accuracy and permanence of financial data within the Inspire system.
